On Saturday, October 29th, history was made in the Philadelphia region (my home area) when 1 to 3 plus inches of snow fell. We hadn’t seen snow so early in the year like this since about 1979. Felt just like winter already. Everyone was searching for comfort foods and spices to warm up their lives. The chilly days that followed, and are continuing still, make the perfect backdrop as we enter November and began baking and cooking seriously for the holidays.
Home cooks and bakers will season their dishes with many different warm spices, and herbs this month. Although various forms of cinnamon, nutmeg, rosemary will play prominent roles, let’s remember that November is the National Month for Pepper including black pepper, chilies, bell peppers - you name it.
