Spotlight On Spices! Issue February 2014 - Fenugreek!
January 31, 2014

So, we're a month into 2014 already. Wow! Let's make this a year of food discovery, and try more herbs and spices cooked with less often. These newer, to many of us, spices and herbs are packed with deliciousness and health benefits. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, let's love ourselves more and take better care of our hearts, and skin, and hair. Now's the time to learn more about this month's . . .

THE SPICE OF LIFE - Fenugreek

Indigenous to Asia and southern Europe, Fenugreek has a bitter-sweet maple-like aroma and flavor. It is also known as Methi. Its seeds are hard and can be difficult to grind by hand; use a spice mill or coffee grinder. If you buy the powder form, get small amounts and use within 6 months. Go to website >>>

Fenugreek can be beneficial for the cardiovascular system. It contains soluble fiber, which can promote the functionality of our hearts. Go to website >>>

For hair, fenugreek can help remove dandruff and combat baldness by incorporating the powder form into hair packs and masks. These home remedies can be used to gently clean hair and bring out it natural shine. In addition, both eating and using topically can improve skin quality.

Rich in iron and potassium, Fenugreek can be helpful for anemic people and those looking to manage blood pressure. It has essential amino acids that can stimulate the production of insulin; thus, helping to control diabetes.

Herb and Spice Aphrodisiacs for Your Love Life:

Ancient lists of aphrodisiacs most often include: Chocolate, Anise Seed, Basil, Asafoetida, Coriander, Fennel, Garlic, Hot Chili Peppers, Licorice, Oysters, Sage, and Vanilla Bean.

Some foods, herbs and spices (e.g., chocolate, basil, vanilla) can have a direct impact on your love life by affecting hormones, brain chemistry, and/or energy and stress levels. Others like Garlic and Hot Chilies can help increase blood flow to genitalia; while others are psychologically suggestive (e.g., Avocado, Almond, Banana, Fig) and just plain old good for your overall health and well-being.

So, spice up your life and have a loving, lovely Valentine’s Day!
