Welcome to December when we get to celebrate special times with family and friends. We get to enjoy these times while munching on holiday goodies with national days this month: e.g., Pumpkin Pie (on the 25th) and Fruit Cake (on the 27th). Plus, we can enjoy creamy Eggnog three special times: its National Day (Christmas Eve, December 24th), its National Week (4th week), and its National Month - December. I wish you all the best as you celebrate with loved ones, and I thank you for sharing this spice journey with me this year. I'm looking forward to sharing more tasty spice news with you in 2014! However, for now there's still many days ahead this month for making and giving holiday treats. Enjoy them all!!

THE SPICE OF LIFE - Vanilla Beans for Tasty Holiday Gifts!I love Vanilla. I’m one of those foodies who prefers to use a Double-Strength (commercial) grade extract, or that extra splash, in baked or cooked dishes. It takes a lot of human labor to bring Vanilla Beans to market. Read more >>> Bourbon beans from Madagascar and Reunion , which account for about 75% of world production, are used for most extracts. They are excellent for all purposes. Their favor is full and robust. Mexican beans/extracts have a heavier, creamy taste with a Kaluah-like aroma. This variety has an excellent affinity with coffee and chocolate flavors. Best usage is for flavoring shorter-cooking or cold-prepared foods like vanilla yogurt.
